The study examines the economic effects of increasing R&D subsidies. Every additional guilder of subsidy appears to generate approximately one guilder of additional R&D expenditure by private enterprise. Subsequently, this will eventually generate production upgrading by twelve guilders. One the one hand, this is due to the fact that additional R&D generates higher productivity, on the other because additional R&D generates more export opportunities.
